NOSEWORK AT SHILOH ROAD KENNELS
Welcome to Nosework at Shiloh Road Kennels! We train our students to participate in United Kennel Club sponsored trials. We also welcome dog and handler teams who are looking for a great hobby!
As UKC describes, “ The concept of Nosework is to provide the opportunity for all dogs and handlers, regardless of physical abilities, and physical structure, to participate in Nosework. The dogs is allowed unlimited communication, praise and encouragement from the handler without penalty and is judged on the overall execution and completion of each exercise.”
We believe that Nosework provides any dog with an opportunity for mental and physical work, using the most natural behavior available to a dog, to contribute to a balanced, happy life. This sport is also an excellent opportunity to bond with your dog on a new level.
Our instructor, Caroline Oldham, competes in UKC Nosework trials on the Elite Level with her 9 year old chocolate lab, Hershey and on the Advanced level with her 1 year old Welsh Springer Spaniel, Timber. Her background has been in obedience disciplines but after her lab achieved her Utility Dog Title, she was in search for an appropriate retirement sport for her dog to maintain physical and mental acuity. Nosework was a new sport to our region, and along with a small group of others, Caroline started learning and teaching classes in the area. As of today, Nosework as a companion dog sport is exploding all over the United States as more and more handlers realize the value, fun and camaraderie inherent to the sport.
As Nosework expands to other clubs, C-WAGS and the American Kennel Club, Shiloh Road Kennels will respond in our class curriculum to prepare our students to compete in these venues also.
Our beginner class is Monday nights at 6:30 and we provide two Wednesday classes at 1:00 and 2:00 for those moving forward to competition. We welcome drop ins and observers with previous notice.
Please contact us at 817-675-1960 for more information on observing a class or registration information.
